Dr. Rowan Valentine - Biography


Rowan Valentine is a specialist ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon who treats and manages the full range of adult and paediatric ENT complaints. His special interest area is in the management of sinonasal inflammatory disorders and head and neck cancers, including thyroid cancer and reconstructive techniques of head and neck defects.

Dr Valentine graduated from medical school in 2004 from the University of Adelaide. Having completed his undergraduate degree he then went on to complete his basic surgical training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2007. He then entered advanced surgical training in ENT in South Australia in 2009 during which time he also undertook his PhD at the University of Adelaide in sinus surgery and skull base surgery with which he received the 2012 University Doctoral Research Medal. In 2011 he undertook a skull base/head and neck anatomy fellowship at the University of Florida.

Immediately after completing his training and fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2015 Rowan worked as a consultant ENT surgeon at the Womens and Childrens Hospital, the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre.

In 2016 Rowan travelled to Auckland with his family to gain specific training in unique techniques of head and neck cancer surgery and reconstructive surgery. This includes mouth, throat, larynx, salivary, thyroid and skin cancer. This also included the specific skills of microvascular reconstruction of head and neck defects.

Rowan has a keen research interest and has authored five book chapters and more than 20 peer-reviewed journal articles. He is a regular invited reviewer for three international journals.
