Dr. John-Charles Hodge - Biography


Dr. John-Charles Hodge joined ENT Surgeons at the Memorial Hospital in February 2011 following his arrival from Perth. He sees both Paediatric and Adult patients.

Having obtained a MA from Cambridge University J-C graduated from medical school at the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1997. He went on to complete his basic surgical training in England, receiving his MRCS in 2001. J-C immigrated to Perth where he completed his advanced surgical training in ENT, receiving his Australian Fellowship in 2007.

J-C completed a further 2 years of specialist training focusing on Head & Neck cancer, snoring & obstructive sleep apnoea surgery, and diseases of the salivary glands and thyroid.

J-C's cancer work encompasses minimally invasive techniques such as the da Vinci Robotic system and the laser. He is one of the few surgeons in Australia using Robotic surgery in the treatment of Head & Neck Cancer. He is an active member of both the RAH and St.Andrew's Hospital Head & Neck Cancer Multi-Disciplinary Groups. He also treats conditions of the salivary glands and thyroid. He is currently the Chairman of the Royal College of Surgeons of Australia's Head & Neck Section.

J-C has a passion for the surgical treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea in children and adults. He is an active member of the RAH and Memorial Hospital's OSA Multi-Disciplinary Teams. He offers multi-level surgery in adults using lastest technologies such as the Coblator Plasma wands. In children suffering solely from sleep disordered breathing he also offers tonsillar debulking procedures, significantly reducing post-operative discomfort and complications such as bleeding.

All well as his private practice with ENT Surgeons at the Memorial Hospital J-C sees public patients at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He also has a country practice in Port Augusta.
